1. Kedarnath Temple
The Kedarnath Temple in the town is the most sacred location that one might come across. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and believed to have been constructed by Guru Shankaracharya. The temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga in the country and is a part of the Chota Char Dham in Uttarakhand. Located in the Rudraprayag district the temple is accessible to visitors from September to November as the area receives very high snowfall during the winters and the roads are completely blocked for months. The temple was initially designed by the Pandavas and later it was renovated and rebuilt by Guru Shankaracharya.
2. Sonprayag
The district of Sonprayag adorned with beautiful and crawling rivers and magnificent rocks and bridges are quite a catch among the tourists to Kedarnath. The magnificent aura of the mountains and the brilliant location of the town offers a panoramic view from the cliff sides. The place is situated at a height of 1829 m above sea level and frequented by the devotees because of the religious importance associated with the town. The Hindu devotees believe that Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati were married off to each other in this part of the Himalayas and thus a very important location according to the Pilgrims.
3. Vasuki Tal
The Vasuki Tal is a brilliant lakeside region for trekkers to plan their destination in the hills. The tourists are observed to plan camping trips and hiking to this region. Situated at an elevation of 4135 feet above sea level the location is ideal for one to enjoy the scenic view of the hills especially the Chaukhamba Peak. You should indulge in the beauty of the mountains and a sprawling lake nestled amidst the towering peaks of the Himalayas. The Vasuki Glacier is also located nearby for the spectators to admire and leave the location with awe and wonders.
4. Shankaracharya Samadhi
This region in Kedarnath is considered extremely holy because the Hindu Guru and his mortal remains were kept in this place. He died when he was thirty-two and until then he had devoted his life towards studying the Hindu Culture and gaining knowledge and experience over the years. He is worshipped for his wisdom and the divine presence with which he blessed earth. This place is one of the four Mathas that were designed by Shankaracharya who was the propounder of the Adwait Culture.
5. Triyuginarayan
The Triyuginarayan Temple of Uttarakhand in Kedarnath is another prominent landmark of the town. You must plan a trip to this fascinating temple which is located in the Rudraprayag district and frequented by travellers when they are in Kedarnath. The temple is situated at a height of 1980m above sea level and one of the best places for one to experience the mystical aura and enjoy the pleasant ambience of the surrounding hills and the snow-covered roads. Lord Vishnu is worshipped in the July shrine and the devotees come to observe the Yagas which is a speciality of this temple held with grandeur.
6. Bhairavnath Temple
The Bhairavnath Temple of Kedarnath is located a short distance away from the Kedarnath temple of Lord Shiva. Lord Bhairav is worshipped in this temple which is located about 500m from the main shrine of Lord Shiva. The idol is believed to be a form and incarnation of Lord Shiva and thus the temple holds immense religious importance in the heart of the pilgrims. Since the temple was designed at an elevated height on a magnificent hillock the tourists can observe the beauty of the surrounding hills and the Himalayas in the distance.
7. Agastyamuni
The temple of Agastyamuni is also another major landmark in the town of Kedarnath. The temple had been dedicated to the home saint Agastya who is worshipped in the premises of the sacred shrine. The temple was erected to celebrate the completion of his one year of continuous Tapas. The magnificent architectural designs and the intricate work of art and carvings that adorn the pillars and the walls of the temple will leave you awestruck with its beauty and excellence. The trekkers find this location ideal for climbing the hills and reaching the temple or you can easily get a local ride to the gates of the temple.
