Thomas Jefferson: is the author of the Declaration of Independence, a document that still inspires democratic rule around the world. He acquired Louisiana from France in 1803. Then the size of the country doubled, adding in full or in part fifteen modern states.
Abraham Lincoln: retained a single nation during the greatest Civil War. Lincoln believed that his most sacred duty was to preserve the United States. He held the firm belief that slavery should be abolished.
Theodore Roosevelt: took charge of the state when the United States experienced rapid economic growth in the early 20th century. He played an important role in the construction of the Panama Canal, connecting East and West.
