Bath salts are a great way to help you relax better. They are typically made with Epsom salt and essential oil. They can be added to your bath, shower, or foot soak. You can also use them as a gentle exfoliating scrub for your body.
These salts combine the benefits and aromatherapy of essential oils with magnesium-rich Epsom salts to help you relax your muscles and mind. They can also soften and exfoliate the skin.
When you are in the tub
Bath salts are best used in the tub. This is how most people use them.
Epsom salt can help relieve sore muscles and pain. The magnesium found in Epsom salts (that can easily be absorbed through the skin) may promote sleep. You also get all the aromatherapy and mild exfoliating benefits.
Use: Pour 1 cup of bath salts into a warm tub, allow salts to dissolve, and then soak for approximately 20 minutes.
It's easy to make bath salts. There are many bath salts benefits once you have found the one that you love most.
Under the shower
Sprinkle bath salts on the floor of your shower to enjoy the aromatherapy benefits. The bath salts will dissolve when hot water and steam come into contact with them, creating an aromatherapy sauna for you.
Exfoliate your skin
Combine 1/2 cup of bath salts with a few drops of oil such as sweet almond oil or coconut oils to gently exfoliate and soften your skin.
Bath salts can be too harsh for the skin, so only use them as a body scrub. Again, use salt crystals gently to avoid micro-tears on the skin. We don't recommend sugar scrubs on the face.
A foot soak
Warm water can be added to a foot bath, large basin, or bathtub. Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of bath salts. Relax your feet by soaking them in warm water. This step is essential for DIY home pedicures.
Mixins of salt for a luxurious soak
To make your bath salts or Epsom salts even more luxurious, you can add essential oils, flower petals, baking soda, and other ingredients to make them extra special.
However, there is a caveat: Essential oils must be mixed with bath salts prior to adding to your bath or soak. Because oil and water are not compatible, essential oils can float on top and burn skin.
Undiluted citrus oils and peppermint oil can cause burns.
Although various research shows that essential oils have large health benefits, FDA does not regulate their quality or purity in any way. Before you start using essential oils, it's important that you speak with your doctor. Also, make sure to investigate the quality of a brand's products. Before you try a new essential oil, always do a patch test.
With Lavender oil
Lavender oil has a relaxing, gentle scent that can help you relax. Lavender oil is often used in aromatherapy to help with sleep. It makes a wonderful addition to an evening soak with Epsom salts. You may find that Epsom salts have magnesium, which can help you sleep better.
To make your bath more relaxing, add 6-10 drops of lavender oil to 1 Cup of bath salts.
With Peppermint oil
Peppermint oil is a refreshing and energizing oil that can be used to soak your feet or sprinkle on your shower floor before you get in the shower. It is also great for soothing headaches and clearing sinuses.
It is very potent, so only add a few drops to your bath salts.
Wuth Citrus oils
Citrus oils, such as sweet orange, lemon, and mandarine, are invigorating aromas that can lift your spirits. They're similar to peppermint. They are also very potent, so only a few drops are necessary.
Pro tip Make a foot soak using 2 to 3 drops of peppermint oil, 2 to 3 drops of sweet orange oil, and 2 to 3 drops of lavender oil. This combination is amazing and can't be matched.
With Petals of flower
Do you want something a little more? Add dried rose petals to your Epsom Salts. They smell amazing and are rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant vitamin that is great for your skin. It's also quite beautiful.
Simply with Baking soda
Baking soda can be used to exfoliate and soften your skin. Baking soda is great for making body scrubs, foot soaks, and baths.
Baking soda should not be used more than once or twice a week. It shouldn't even be applied to your skin. Baking soda can be a little too exfoliating and can cause more harm than good if not carefully used.
Mix a teaspoon of bath salts into your bath before adding it to the bath or making it into a scrub.
